It should go without saying that raising children is the most challenging job in the world. While it may seem like everything is easy to an outsider, only parent and child know the daily struggle. (Though, it’s worth it!)
Greg Wickherst is a single dad living in Colorado Springs with his young daughter, Izzy. While Greg had a handle on most of the aspects of raising a little girl on his own, there was one thing he just kept having trouble with — her hair.
Greg Wickherst is a single dad with one very big priority: his daughter, Izzy.
For Greg, spending time with Izzy is the best thing in the world. “My favorite part of the day is when I wake her up and get her out of bed and she’s still sleepy, so she nuzzles her face into my neck,” Greg said in an interview.
There’s nothing he wouldn’t do for his little girl, but being a single dad isn’t always easy. Greg’s honest in recognizing that it can be pretty difficult, but seeing Izzy smile is his reward for all the tough times.
Because Greg is such a hands-on parent, he wanted to tackle one particular challenge head on — and that was the trouble he had styling Izzy’s hair.
After getting some much-needed pointers from the school, Greg decided to put his knowledge to good use by passing it along to other dads who might be struggling the same way he was.
Greg started a toddler hairstyle revolution. He posted instructional videos on YouTube and even launched a Facebook page of hair inspiration photos, called Greg Wickherst’s Dads Guide to Surviving Hair.
Once he got a few skills locked into his repertoire, it was a cinch to learn more. Now, he pushes the envelope with Izzy’s looks, and they’re coming along really well!
Greg and Izzy have fun planning her hairstyles and adding photos to their Facebook page.
Greg’s followers love what he’s doing. They appreciate the hard work he put into making Izzy’s life a little more special, and they’re thankful that they can do the same for their daughters.
But Greg isn’t full of himself. He admits his attempts at creating an awesome look aren’t always picture-worthy.
“Last weekend I ended up with ten ponytails in her hair and I tried to put them together and it didn’t turn out very well,” he said.
But he’s still inspiring other dads. His college hosted a Daddy-Daughter Hairdo Day where local dads can learn looks ranging from a simple chignon bun to a complicated double-dutch braid.
Despite his fame, the most important thing to Greg is still sharing the special time he and Izzy share while he does her hair.
Greg adores the time they spend brushing, braiding and giggling together.
Even though Izzy doesn’t understand why her dad has gotten so much attention lately, she loves his new skills.
